The article presents a comprehensive geoecological assessment of the state of the Kalmius River within the city limits of Donetsk. The natural conditions of the basin are considered and the main sources of anthropogenic impact are identified, including industrial enterprises, mines, mine waters, municipal and storm water runoff. The data of long-term water quality monitoring (2013-2014, 2022-2024) are analyzed. Water pollution indices are calculated to assess the dynamics of technogenic load. It was found that the highest pollution was observed in 2013-2014, then in 2022-2023 there was an improvement in water quality, and by 2024 there was a slight increase in pollution. The main pollutants are oil products, phenols, heavy metals (Fe, Mn), organic matter (assessed by BOD-5). The reasons for the identified trends related to changes in the operation of industrial facilities, public utilities infrastructure and their relationship with military operations were discussed.
